Arrive on Time

Hairdressers work on a pretty tight schedule, so show respect to your colourist by arriving at least 5 minutes before your scheduled appointment time so that their day stays on track. After all, it’s just the polite thing to do. If you do happen to start running late, make sure to call the salon and let them know.

Wear Something Comfy

Hair colour appointments take hours! You’re going to be sitting in the salon chair for a while so make sure that you have comfy shoes and a comfy outfit. The last thing you want is to wish you were wearing a tracksuit instead of a cocktail dress.

Know What You Want 

At the time of making the appointment, you should have a strong idea of what you want. You can bring along reference photos and should know whether you want full colour, balayage, highlights, or whatever other type of colour technique.

Be Open to Suggestions

As much as we just said that you should know what you want, you should also be flexible and open to suggestions. Your colourist will know what will work well and what is achievable, so be sure to listen to their professional advice. Sometimes what you want (like going from black to blonde) is not achievable in one session.

Bring a Book/ Magazine/ Podcast

While you may love chatting away to your stylist, you are certainly going to be left with some time to kill throughout your appointment. And this can be quite boring, so why not bring along that book you’ve been meaning to finish or download a podcast to pass the time productively?

Remember to Ask Your Stylist if You Should Wash Your Hair Beforehand

Different stylists have different preferences as to how many hours before your appointment you should wash your hair, so be sure to ask what they prefer and if there is anything else you should do in preparation for your hair colour appointment.
